Dollar General Coupon Policy 101

by Sandy on June 30, 2011

Dollar General has a pretty straight forward coupon policy.  They welcome couponers by accepting store and manufacture coupons in their stores, but sometimes their computer system can give you a hard time.  If this happens, speak with the manager if your cashier can’t take care of the problem for you. I have expienenced coupons not scanning even though the product was purchased and management was able to take care of it for me.

So, now let’s see what kind of coupons Dollar General accepts and does not accept.

Dollar General will accept coupons, including Internet Coupons (must meet these requirements):

  1. Coupons must be original (no photocopies)
  2. Coupons must have a scan-able barcode
  3. Coupons must have an expiration date
  4. Coupons may be used only on products sold at Dollar General, and must match exactly to the item as it is packaged and sold at Dollar General.
  5. Coupons must clearly say “Manufacturers Coupon” or “Dollar General Store Coupon”

Dollar General will NOT accept the following:

  1. Manufacture coupons that do not scan or Dollar General Store Coupons with an invalid promotional code
  2. Expired Coupons (keep up with those expiration dates!)
  3. Coupons for products not sold at Dollar General
  4. FREE Item coupon if printed from the Internet, unless a purchase is required (example: a “buy one, get one free” is acceptable). BOGO (buy one get one free) coupons are accepted J
  5. Coupons from other retailers or coupons that may be used only at other retailers.

The great thing about shopping at your local Dollar General is that they do allow you to use a manufacturers coupon along with their store coupon (stacking). They also allow a manufactures cents off coupon to be stacked along with a BOGO (buy one, get one free) coupon. This is extremely useful to the savvy shopper who is looking to stock up on everyday items and keeping that extra cash in their pockets J

As with all coupon policies, it is a good rule of thumb to carry the coupon policy with you at all times.  You can print a copy of Dollar Generals Coupon Policy here.
